INSTALLATION RECOMMENDATIONS

Sizing (KA ratings) of Surge Protection Devices (SPDs): The proper selection is based on electrical panel location within the building (ANSI/IEEE C62.41) and by the cost of loss of your critical equipment/data.

Cascade Protection: Installing a higher KA rated SPD at the input panel, and a
second lower KA rated SPD on a distribution panel, provide the most protection. Improved protection allows the capacitance of the SPD, in conjunction with the inductance of the wires between them, to create an L-C type filter. The L-C filter improves transient attenuation.

Length of Grounding Conductor: It is critical that the installation wire length of the ground conductor be as short as possible. It is recommended to always keep the length under 18 inches. The aforementioned steps limit the impedance of the wire, which has the potential to grow very large at higher frequencies.

The installation must comply with local electrical codes.
